Andrew Largeman had been on pills for the majority of his life.Being that he is a moderately successful actor living in LA Large(his nickname) hasn't made the trip back to the Garden State in roughly nine years. The unfortunate death of his mother finally brings Large home. After the many years of avoiding his father, the death of his mother does nothing other than resurect the affect his domneering father had on his life. Stunned to find himself in his hometown after such a long absence, Large found his old friends around every corner still living in the same town. Each lived quite unique lives as gravediggers, fast food workers , and schemers. Meanwhile, at home, Large does his best to avoid a confrontation with his father. By a twist of fate, Large meets Sam, a girl who is everything he isn't. A blast of color, hope and full of quirks. Sam eventually joins Large in his somewhat journey for self discovery and healing of his soul. Her fearless attitude toward life helped to encourage Large to open his heart for all of the good opportunities that life had to offer.
I feel that this film is a work of art because it digs to the core of human emotion. It helps to express human feelings and why we feel the way we do. It also show us how hard it is to accept the differences between people, but contrary to that, is if you strive hard enough you just might be able to achieve inner peace with you current state of being. Large could do nothing to change how he felt towards his fater or even his feelings toward his mothers death. With the help from Sam though, he was finally able to accept his lot in life and was able to remove a good bit of the guilt that he had let build up. Art is nothing more than the expression of human emotion.
